Tulum is located on the eastern side of the Yucatan Peninsula, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo.
Tulum is about 90 minutes south of Cancun and a trip that everyone should take at least once in their lifetime. It is a truly unique and magical area that radiates vibes of positivity, health, spirituality, peace, beauty, and love.
Where to Stay
Our favorite place to stay, hands down, is Nomade. Nomade is nestled in a lush, tropical jungle and focuses on wellness – the mind, body, and soul. A feeling of peace will wash over you as you enter the resort. After checking in at the unassuming entrance you will be escorted on the path into the resort, where you will be engrossed in massive palm trees and the scent of copal. Copal is thought to remove negative energy from the mind, body, and space and is burned all around Tulum. Nomade immerses you in the natural world, yet provides the comfort of a luxurious experience. Accommodations are numerous and range ocean front villas, to rooms with private plunge pools, to treehouse experiences.
Nomade resort food is great. Breakfast is incredible and always starts with a plethora of fruit, danishes, and freshly pressed juice. The main dining is open air on the sand, overlooking the ocean, and beautifully lit at night. Food service and drinks comes to all of the beach seating and our Tulum lunch ritual has become spicy margaritas, guacamole, and lobster on the beach.
Nomade offers a weekly schedule of wellness classes such as yoga, breathwork, gratitude classes, cacao ceremonies, intimate relationship classes, and more! Our all time favorite class was breathwork with Elina, it was an unforgettable relaxation experience that really opened our minds to the power of the conscious control of breathing.
What to do
Yaan Healing Sanctuary – A must. An award winning spa, known as an energy healing spa to cleanse the body and spirit. Guests are asked to arrive early to begin the healing water circuit which includes the indoor and outdoor massage pools, steam room, sauna, and marble hammam room, which will prepare you for your treatments. After enjoying the circuit, we then went to our private cabin for couples treatments which included body scrubs, followed by deep tissue massages. We then soaked in large copper tubs that were infused with flowers and herbs gathered from the rooftop gardens as enjoyed tea and fresh fruit as we took in the serene views.
Tulum Mayan Ruins – Tulum was the last city built by the Mayan people between the thirteen and fifteenth century. Explore the ancient city and temples independently or on a guided tour.
Cenotes are large sinkholes or caves that have filled with rainwater and ground water over time. There are thousands of cenotes throughout the Yucitan Peninsula where visitors can snorkle, swim, and scuba dive.
Vientos Sailing Adventures – Charter a private catamaran that will be unforgettable. We sailed out on the open waters, had drinks, hors d’oeuvres , went on paddle boards, and watched a gorgeous sunset.
Restaurants & Nightlife
Bagatelle – Beach club during the day with a french Mediterranean culinary experience in the evening with live dancers, performers, some of the world’s most renowned DJs. Bagatelle is an upscale party scene with beautiful views, top notch service, and a guaranteed unforgettable time.
Gitano has three locations in Tulum and we love Gitano Jungle. It is a modern mexican restauarant, mezcal bar, and jungle room, with a romantic, bohemian vibe that Tulum is known for. Live local music and great DJ sets are always planned so be sure to check out their schedule!
Rosanegra is one of the main places to go for an exciting dinner in Tulum. Experience a fantastic Latin American cuisine, a live DJ, and and great party! Be sure to make reservations well in advance!
Art/Love/Positivity
Through out Tulum you will see words of positivity, motivation, and art blended throughout the environment. They are extremely inspiring and great photo ops as well.
Travel Tips
Most restaurants and bars are on the beach or in the jungle so it is best to avoid wearing heals. Dress casual, but nice. Tulum has a relaxed Bohemian vibe.
